Course Description

An introduction to the Canadian legal system and its effects on business entities. The course includes an examination of the Canadian court structure and a discussion of the various forms of business ownership, tort law, contract law, and property law.

Qualifications
  • Minimum:
    Completion of L.L.B or J.D. required; at least three years related professional experience; demonstrated teaching excellence, currency in and mastery of subject area; previous experience in teaching a similar course at undergraduate (university) level.
  • Preferred:
    In addition to the minimum, several years related progressive, professional experience. Previous experience teaching a related course at UTSC with consistent, strong course evaluations.
Duties

All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, presentations, quizzes, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades, holding regular office hours and maintaining reasonable availability for student and administrative contact, supervision of T.A. assigned to course.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

In considering qualified applicants, teaching excellence, currency in and mastery of subject area; previous experience in teaching a similar course at undergraduate (university) level or similar environment; several years related professional experience shall be the criteria used in the selection of the most qualified candidate in accordance with Article 14:12.

Grading Policy

Note:

All positions involve the completion of all course grading. You must be available throughout the exam period as exams are scheduled centrally and individual preferences for exam times/dates cannot always be accommodated.

Salary

For a half-course (0.50 FCEs) inclusive of vacation pay:
The Sessional Lecturer I rate of pay will be $9,99.47. Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term rate of pay will be $10,699.22. Sessional Lecturer II rate of pay will be $10,699.22. Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term rate of pay will be $10,953.96. Sessional Lecturer III rate of pay will be $10,953.96. Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term rate of pay will be $11,228.90.
