Position

Summary

Reporting to the Director, Learning and Inclusion and working as part of a cohesive Learning and Development team in the Learning and Inclusion department, the Learning and Development Designer will be responsible for the development of multi‑media for modular, blended, hybrid and fully online programming.

In collaboration with the Learning and Development team, the incumbent participates in the design and development of digital media in learning and course material. The incumbent will provide guidance to colleagues and staff in the development of effective digital learning objects that support and enhance the learning process and create a positive learning environment.

The incumbent will work with Learning and Inclusion colleagues and subject matter experts to develop learning objects (videos, infographics, interactive tools, illustrations, etc.) and advise on digital media design strategies. Working collaboratively, the incumbent will participate in consultative decision‑making regarding the integration of technology into programs. They will assist in choosing the appropriate mode of delivery and support the program development team in defining delivery and evaluation strategies.

The incumbent will design specific e‑learning materials that will be part of courses and other learning materials, including storyboard development, and integrating content with media elements which will facilitate and support the learning process.

Responsibilities
  • Develop storyboards; integrate media elements; design images, illustrations, animations, incorporation of text, interactions, video and photography, and assessments in collaboration with the appropriate subject matter experts and instructional design team;
  • Provide recommendations for interface design, and design of online interactive activities;
  • Create a design framework (or method) appropriate to the development project; design diagnostic;
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and the Learning and Development team to ensure instructional integrity of course learning objects;
  • Integrate content elements into the learning platform (LMS);
  • Produce engaging and interactive eLearning content by designing and developing digital media assets and learning objects (e.g., create videos, graphics, animation, and web elements using design tools and software, content authoring tools, appropriate programming languages, etc.);
  • Develop instructional content (guides, directives, instructions, specifications, etc.) in collaboration with clients;
  • Develop resource documents for clients; provide training and support to subject matter experts on how to use different types of instructional media;
  • Understand and comply with copyright and privacy legislation; ensure compliance with AODA standards in the development of instructional media materials;
