F​/W - Swim Instructor

Purpose

The Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates in aquatic programs and providing effective supervision of the pool and pool area during operation.

• Must be enrolled as a York student.
• Successful completion of all York University required trainings, including but not limited to WHMIS, AODA and Health and Safety Training.
• Current National Lifeguard certificate (as per Lifesaving Society, Ontario Branch).
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR C (as per Regulation 1101, WSIB) from one of the following national partners:
  Lifesaving Society, Red Cross and St. John Ambulance.
• Current aquatic instructor award from recognized service provider (Lifesaving Society).

Previous work experience may be considered.

• Ability to communicate with others to explain and share information.
• Ability to provide instruction and support others in developing knowledge or skills.
• Ability to understand and demonstrate instructions, policies & procedures.
• Ability to take initiative and demonstrate leadership skills.
• Ability to exercise judgement and decision making.
• Ability to lift/move/carry equipment or material of varying weights.

Vulnerable Sector Police check required.
