The Karate Instructor delivers programming, develops short‑term lesson plans incorporating physical literacy guidelines, and ensures the unique needs of participants are met. Instructors maintain a safe environment at all times.

• Instruct participants in YMCA Karate Program
• Develop and implement sequential weekly lesson plans based on YMCA program syllabus
• Assist Lead Instructor with Gradings
• Recognize participant learning styles and deliver content accordingly
• Coach and develop participants to meet success
• Communicate (verbal and written) child progress to parents and Supervisor
• Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date weekly progress sheets and records for participants
• Take attendance, ensuring participants are signed in and out of the program
• Take down equipment, checking that equipment is safe and in good repair; report malfunctions immediately and remove damaged equipment from circulation
• Build relationships with members and seek opportunities to share YMCA story and educate members and guests on YMCA as a charity
• Ensure qualifications and certifications required by YMCA and regulatory standards are current at all times
• Actively participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events
• Assist program members, volunteers, and staff to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location
• Integrate value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors, and staff
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Current Standard First Aid & CPR level C
• Minimum 1 year of active Karate training
• Experience teaching Youth Leadership is an asset
• Well‑developed interpersonal and relationship‑building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
• Flexibility regarding schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends
