Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Learning and Inclusion and working as part of a cohesive Learning and Development team in the Learning and Inclusion department, the Learning and Development Designer will be responsible for the development of multi‑media for modular, blended, hybrid and fully online programming. In collaboration with the Learning and Development team, the incumbent participates in the design and development of digital media in learning and course material and guides colleagues and staff in creating effective digital learning objects that support and enhance the learning process.

The incumbent will design specific e‑learning materials including storyboards, image and animation design, and integration of media elements into learning platforms. They will also advise on technology integration, delivery modes, evaluation strategies and assist the program development team in defining delivery and evaluation strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Develop storyboards and integrate media elements;
  • Design images, illustrations, animations, incorporate text, interactions, video and photography, and assessments in collaboration with subject matter experts and the instructional design team;
  • Provide recommendations for interface design and online interactive activities;
  • Create a design framework (or method) appropriate to the development project;
  • Collaborate with SME and the Learning and Development team to ensure instructional integrity of course learning objects;
  • Integrate content elements into the learning platform (LMS);
  • Produce engaging and interactive e‑Learning content by designing and developing digital media assets and learning objects such as videos, graphics, animation and web elements using design tools and software, content authoring tools, and appropriate programming languages;
  • Develop instructional content (guides, directives, instructions, specifications) in collaboration with clients and develop resource documents for clients;
  • Provide training and support to SME on how to use different types of instructional media;
  • Understand and comply with copyright and privacy legislation and ensure compliance with AODA standards in development of instructional media materials;
  • Assist SME with selection and inclusion of accessibility technology during learning development;
  • Ensure that tools and materials are in place and that the learning application or solutions function; assess and validate development within the learning system;
  • Create testing plans and undertake functional and user interface testing for current e‑Learning modules; run frequent system checks;
  • Communicate with vendors of instructional media if systems errors occur; troubleshoot problems in technology and course delivery;
  • Review current instructional media components, identify efficiencies, and make recommendations for changes as appropriate;
  • Evaluate and revise instructional media solutions and learning objects as part of a regular maintenance review cycle;
  • Create schedules and deadlines, track and report progress, and handle multiple course design projects simultaneously;
  • Plan and coordinate efforts with cross‑functional co‑workers, including clients/client groups, Curriculum and Instructional Design Analysts, and Learning Architects, to deliver a comprehensive e‑Learning training and support service;
