Secondary School Principal

Salary Range: $ to $ annually

The Lycée Français de Toronto is an educational institution with 520 students of 30 nationalities, from preschool to high school (Pre K‑Gr 12), offering a French Ministry of Education curriculum up to the French Baccalaureate, with an American international option. It is part of a network of more than 520 French schools around the world affiliated with the Agency for French Education Abroad.

Job Description

The Secondary School Principal is a member of the leadership team and operates under the authority of the Head of School. This position is responsible for the pedagogical and educational organization of the middle and high school divisions. The secondary School Principal works closely with the other directors and all staff members (teachers, educational staff, and support staff) to achieve the annual objectives set by the school and contribute to the implementation of the strategic priorities established by the Board and the school development plan.

The Secondary School Principal represents, communicates, and promotes the vision, mission, and values of the LFT and incorporates them into all activities.

The Head of School can occasionally delegate some special responsibilities to the Secondary School Director.

Key Responsibilities

Participation in School Leadership

  • Participation in governing bodies and committees:
    Board of Directors, School Council, Discipline Committee, Professional Development Committee
  • Oversight of committees and councils:
    Secondary School Council, Pedagogical Council, International Section Council, CESCE, CVCL, School-to-Middle School Council, Educational Committee, Student Support Teams
  • Participation in leadership meetings
  • Participation in APA meetings
  • Participation in the development of the academic calendar
  • Management and development of educational and pedagogical partnerships
  • Preparation of reference guides and documents (homeroom teachers, parent and student representatives, school trips, etc.), school regulations, annual activity reports, annual career guidance plan, annual action plan for the school continuity council (with the Elementary School Director), annual action plan against all forms of violence, discrimination, and harassment, annual sustainable development and citizenship education program, athletic association activity program, organization of student life, special assignment letters for staff, support plans for students with special educational needs, and contribution to the school development plan
Communication and Admissions
  • Organization of information meetings, back-to-school meetings, and parent-teacher conferences
  • Participation in school promotion activities: open houses, fairs, and events
  • Regular communication with teams regarding secondary school organization
  • Contribution to the school’s external communications
  • Collaboration with the Admissions and Communications Department
Organization and Implementation of Instruction
  • Participation in back-to-school preparation: defining academic offerings and staffing needs
  • Development of class and teacher schedules based on staffing allocation plans
  • Monitoring and adjustment of schedules throughout the year
  • Oversight of teaching quality within the framework of accreditation, student assessment, and communication with families
  • Leadership of disciplinary, multidisciplinary, and interdisciplinary team collaboration
Pedagogical Leadership and Teacher Support
  • Coordination with department heads and homeroom teachers
  • Organization of departmental meetings, pedagogical councils, school continuity councils, and international section councils
  • Organization of peer‑learning initiatives in secondary education and between elementary and secondary divisions in collaboration with the Elementary School Director
