Impact+ Emerging Leaders Early Career Researcher Tenure Track Position

Toronto Metropolitan University’s Department of Civil Engineering invites applications for an Impact+ Emerging Leaders Early Career Researcher (ECR), a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in the federal priority area of Environment, Climate Resilience and the Arctic, effective 1 June 2027, subject to final budgetary approval.
The Impact+ program provides $100,000 per year for six years, with the possibility of a further six‑year extension at the same funding level based on evidence of transformational research, partnership development and career progression. The incumbent will continue to hold a tenure‑stream position following the funded period.
The successful candidate will conduct research in Integrated Urban Systems Engineering with expertise in Digital Twins, Agentic Systems and/or Physics‑Informed AI, advancing the climate resilience of integrated urban environments. Teaching duties will include undergraduate and graduate instruction, student supervision and curriculum development. Service to the department and university is also expected. The candidate should demonstrate a track record of scientific machine learning or systems modelling to address resilience challenges at the intersection of built and natural systems.
Eligibility and Qualification Requirements- Early‑career researcher within five years of first research‑related appointment, adjusted for any eligible leaves of absence, and currently internationally based.
- Exceptional emerging scholar with demonstrated research creativity and potential for international recognition within five to ten years.
- PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, plus a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent accredited program.
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario and expected to attain the designation within a reasonable timeframe.
- Evidence of strong emerging scholarly research or creative activity in the federal priority area as evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications, grants, conference presentations, community engagement or other indicators of impact.
- Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence at all levels and suitable for the graduate program, with a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy, course and curriculum review experience, best practices in pedagogy, sample syllabi and teaching evaluations.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in service, teaching and research, with a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for diverse students.
- Willingness to contribute to the life of the Department of Civil Engineering and the University through collegial service.
