Upper School Spanish Teacher

. This is a full‑time position, starting in September 2026.
Compensation & Placement Salary is determined by the Havergal Faculty Grid, ranging from $74,711 to $106,714 for early‑career faculty and $107,078 to $140,448 for those with 6+ years of experience. Final placement is based on recognized teaching years, degrees, and Additional Qualifications (AQs).

Position
We are seeking a passionate Spanish teacher who designs engaging learning experiences, supports diverse learners, builds strong relationships with students and families, and contributes positively to our collaborative faculty culture. The successful candidate will be committed to ongoing professional growth and the broader life of the school through co‑curricular involvement.
Specific Accountabilities Planning and Preparation of Learning- Use knowledge of student developmental stages and current educational research to inform instructional decisions.
- Collaborate with the Upper School Department Head to develop content knowledge and deliver a consistent, aligned, rigorous program of study.
- Develop effective long‑range, unit, and lesson plans reflecting a teaching‑for‑understanding framework and Ontario curriculum expectations.
- Apply assessment principles reflective of current practices.
- Collaborate with other faculty to develop integrated units of study.
- Model best practices for using technology to support the curriculum and students’ developmental stages.
- Show compassion, acceptance, insight, and interest for developing students’ potential and capacity.
- Model the school’s values through actions and words when dealing with students, parents, and other adults.
- Create a trusting learning environment with consistent, fair, open, honest practices and clear expectations.
- Maintain appropriate behaviour in the classroom and on school property.
- Make student thinking visible, valued, and part of everyday experiences.
- Create a safe and engaging learning space reflecting developmental needs.
- Plan and prepare instruction reflecting the time available.
- Use questions and instructional strategies that promote student thinking and extend their understanding, knowledge, and skills.
- Employ relevant pedagogy, assessment, and technology to meet individual student needs.
- Document and report student learning appropriately.
- Uphold the professional and ethical standards of Ontario College of Teachers.
- Participate in professional growth activities such as learning communities, reading, and setting learning goals.
- Maintain supportive and encouraging relationships with colleagues.
- Comply with all school policies and maintain required documentation.
- Communicate openly with parents and partner in their daughter’s educational journey.
- Engage in school life outside the classroom.
- Bachelor of Education and Intermediate/Senior qualifications in Spanish (or equivalent).
- Ontario College of Teachers certification in Good Standing (or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Secondary School Languages curriculum and Growing Success.
- Demonstrated excellence in language instruction and support for diverse learners.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Commitment to collaboration, continuous professional learning, and student wellbeing.
- Willingness to contribute to the co‑curricular life of the school.
- Experience in an independent school (asset).
