Job Description

Full‑time permanent position for a K‑12 French Program Specialist serving Family of Schools 1 and 2. The office will be located in the geographical area of FOS 1 and 2, depending on availability. Duties will commence on September 8, 2026.

As the K‑12 French Program Specialist, your primary role is to support, stimulate and sustain engaging pedagogy for adult learners to enhance student engagement and learning for all, in French Language (Core French and French Immersion). Reporting to the Senior Management Official – Programs, the successful applicant will provide leadership to schools and teachers on all aspects of French Language programming and curriculum.

This individual will support learning communities and build capacity for excellence in French Language learning, while demonstrating a commitment to continued professional learning with an emphasis on current educational research and pedagogy. To provide leadership in teaching and learning, this individual will collaborate with other Provincial Program Specialists, Directors of Schools, and other Department of Education K‑12 divisions, educators, school administrators from a Family of Schools, and other learning partners.

As a Program Specialist, your work will be guided by the Standards of Practice for Program Specialists: ethical responsibility; development and characteristics of learners; professional learning and leadership; collaborative partnerships; reflective practice; professional knowledge.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of child development and the diverse learning needs of students
  • Understanding of adult learners and the diverse learning needs of educators
  • In‑depth knowledge of French Language Pedagogy
  • Extensive knowledge of current evidence‑based instruction and assessment practices that enhance engagement and support learning for all students
  • Experience collecting, analysing and using data to support teachers to inform practice
  • Practical knowledge of instructional mentorship and change leadership
  • Strong leadership skills in evidence‑based professional learning models
  • Proficiency with the effective use of technology to support professional learning
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
  • Creative and innovative in learning design and facilitation
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education, or other acceptable specialization relevant to the duties of this position.
  • Bachelor of Education
  • French Major (10 courses)
  • NL Teaching Certificate
  • DELF B2 (70% overall average with no less than 60% minimum in all four components)
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching experience in the K‑12 school system
  • French First Language applicants may be considered
  • Equivalencies may be considered
  • This position will require the use of a personal vehicle and the successful candidate to travel regionally and provincially.
  • Applicants without the required qualifications may be considered in accordance with Clause 37.01 (d) of the provincial collective agreement.
Salary and Incentives (Only applicable if the Successful Candidate is Located at the Goose Bay Regional Office)
  • Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.
  • Incentives are pro‑rated if a teacher works less than the full contract awarded or on periods of unpaid leave.
  • A taxable $2040.00 isolation allowance paid to all Labrador teachers on a bi‑weekly basis. Please refer to Article 24.02 of the Collective Agreement.
  • A Labrador Allowance and Travel Allowance calculated based on school location and dependents. The bonus is prorated if a teacher works less than a full school year or if not full time.
  • For those that need to relocate, a one‑time only round‑trip travel claim to travel to the school community and back to your home location during the first year is available up to a maximum of $1700.00.
