The Faculty of Art invites applications for the following anticipated course offerings in the Fall/Winter 2026-27 academic year:

CROS-3020:
Stories in Expanded Worlds (0.5 credit)
(Fall 2026 Semester: September 9, 2026 - December 23, 2026; Tuesday: 11:50AM - 2:50PM; Blended)

Stories, spoken words, pictures, maps, texts, bestiaries and hybrids are key to collecting and disseminating intergenerational knowledges in diverse cultures over millennia. Fables, lore, myth and historical allegories are considered alongside contemporary world-building, role-playing, non-linear and emergent narratives, artist books, performance, magic, improvisation and activism. Stories play key roles in collecting and disseminating intergenerational knowledges. Discussions include thematic focuses in speculative fiction;

LGBTQ2S+, Indigenous and Afro-futurist visions; graphic novels, fan fictions, zines and online digital artworks. Course work is informed by stories, relevant theory, artist writings and projects. Activities including critiques, studio-based experimentation, concept and prototype development, critical readings, discussion and presentations deepen understandings of this complex subject in contemporary art.

Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.

• The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience
• Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty
• Experience providing clear direction, mentorship and supervision to Teaching Assistants

Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with salary level of $7,508.00 (per 0.5 credit course) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
