The Faculty of Art invites applications for the following anticipated course offering in the Fall/Winter 2026-27 academic year:
CROS-3001:Professional Practice (0.5 credit)
(Winter 2027 Semester: January 7, 2027 – April 23, 2027; Wednesday: 3:10PM - 6:10PM; Blended)
COURSEDESCRIPTION:
This course will provide students with a comprehensive survey of professional practices in a variety of disciplines. This course will center around developing community, identifying research goals, and formulating strategies for dissemination. Through faculty/artist presentations, gallery visits, festivals and other forms of presentation, professional practices are investigated and discussed. Students will develop research, analytical and critical skills through written proposals and oral presentations and other resources suitable for exhibitions, grants, commissions and publications.
A group project focusing on student collaboration in the form of a public presentation will serve as the capstone project for this class.
Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS:- The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience
- Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty
- Experience providing clear direction, mentorship and supervision to Teaching Assistants
Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with salary level of $7,508.00 (per 0.5 credit course) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
