Through Immigrant & Refugee Services (IRS), we welcome and support newcomers as they build their lives in Canada. Through English language learning, settlement support, and community connections, we create opportunities for belonging, confidence, and hope.

About the Role:

We are looking for compassionate volunteers who want to make a difference by helping newcomer adults strengthen their English skills while building meaningful relationships across cultures.

As a Volunteer ESL Teacher
, you will:

  • Facilitate online ESL classes for newcomer adults
  • Support students in developing confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing
  • Create a welcoming and encouraging learning environment
  • Build relationships with learners from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Use your own creativity and teaching style to engage students
ESL Program Levels

Volunteers will teach one of the following levels:

Beginner (Level 1-2)| Intermediate (Level 3–4) | High Intermediate (Level 5–6)

Class Schedule (Online)

Days:
Monday & Wednesday Or Tuesday & Thursday
Times: 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.

Training & Support Provided

We provide:

  • ESL curriculum and lesson resources
  • Volunteer orientation and training
  • Ongoing support from the Immigrant & Refugee Services team
  • A framework and resources while allowing room for your own teaching approach and creativity
Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for volunteers who:

  • Have strong English communication skills
  • Enjoy helping others learn and grow
  • Are patient, encouraging, and culturally sensitive
  • Are reliable and committed to supporting newcomer learners

Previous ESL teaching experience or TESL training is an asset, but not required.
