Course description: This course is designed to prepare teachers of science in the Intermediate division (Grades 7-10). It explores the teaching of selected units in all four strands from the Ontario Science and Technology Curriculum guideline. Attention is paid to the skills of lesson planning, laboratory techniques, teaching strategies, and assessment and resources, through workshops, lectures and lab activities. This course will consider important contexts as they relate to science and technology in education as outlined in:
Acting Today, Shaping Tomorrow - A Policy Framework for Environmental Education in Ontario Schools (a policy document on Environmental Education and ways to infuse Environment and Sustainability education into our classrooms) Equity and Inclusive Education in Ontario Schools, 2009: (guidelines for school boards
- Equity and inclusive education aims to understand, identify, address, and eliminate the biases, barriers, and power dynamics that limit students' prospects for learning, growing and fully contributing to society) Growing Success, 2010;
Explore the seven fundamental principles and what they mean for instructional decisions Connecting the Dots, Key Learning Strategies for Environmental Education, Citizenship and Sustainability. These learning strategies involve students as engaged learners, learning within the context of their communities and addressing relevant, local issues.

Salary
:
As of September 1, 2026, the minimum stipend is $ (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course.

As of January 1, 2027, the minimum stipend is $ $ (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Should possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience, 2. Must demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter;
3. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant;
4. Must demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion;
5. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates professional learning; 6. An Ontario Teaching certificate is an asset.

This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. It is understood that some announcements of vacancies are tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolment. Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
