Course description: This course will introduce candidates to the methodologies and issues relevant to teaching English in Ontario in the Intermediate and Senior divisions (Grades 7-12). Written, visual and virtual texts such as literature, media and technology define the content. Topics include teaching textual forms, writing processes, classroom language and media/technology. Teacher candidates will read, write, view, talk and represent their understanding of text to reflect on English/Language Arts practices and theories, as preparation for informed curriculum planning and implementation.

The content, methodologies, evaluation and skill requirements in English/Language Arts will be linked to Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines. This course is normally open only to students in the Master of Teaching program.

As of September 1, 2026, the minimum stipend is $ (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course.

As of January 1, 2027, the minimum stipend is $ $ (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a doctoral degree or other graduate degree and relevant teacher experiences in K-12 settings in a relevant discipline as well as demonstrated currency and mastery of the subject area. Mastery may be demonstrated, but not limited to scholarly publications establishing expertise in the area. Demonstrated knowledge and practice of equity, diversity and inclusion required. An Ontario Teaching Certificate is an asset.

Description of duties: Prepare, organize, and teach this graduate course; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work. Attend a pre-course planning/preparation meeting with the course instructional team, attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM) and submit course syllabus as requested by the department.

This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. It is understood that some announcements of vacancies are tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolment. Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
