Course Description

An introduction to the principles and practice of auditing. The course is designed to provide students with a foundation in the theoretical and practical approaches to auditing by emphasizing auditing theory and concepts, with some discussion of audit procedures and the legal and professional responsibilities of the auditor.

Qualifications

Minimum:
Experience with teaching senior students in university and a Ph.D. degree is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching or presenting and mastery of the subject area.

Preferred qualifications:

In addition to the minimum, several years related progressive professional experience. Previous experience teaching a related course at UTSC with consistent, strong course evaluations. For the candidate to be fully qualified, some working experience in audit is required.

Duties

The successful applicant is expected to carry out all of the normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, presentations, quizzes, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades, holding regular office hours and maintaining reasonable availability for student and administrative contact, and supervision of the T.A.s assigned to the course.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

In considering qualified applicants, teaching excellence, currency in and mastery of subject area; previous experience in teaching a similar course at undergraduate (university) level or similar environment; several years related professional experience shall be the criteria used in the selection of the most qualified candidate in accordance with Article 14:12.

Courses run as follows: F Term - September 8, 2026 to December 8, 2026 The Exam period is as follows:
From December 10, 2026 to December 22, 2026

Note:

All positions involve the completion of all course grading. You must be available throughout the exam period as exams are scheduled centrally and individual preferences for exam times/dates cannot always be accommodated.

Salary for a half-course (0.50 FCEs) inclusive of vacation pay:
The Sessional Lecturer I rate of pay will be $9,997.48. Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term rate of pay will be $10,699.22. Sessional Lecturer II rate of pay will be $10,699.22. Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term rate of pay will be $10,953.96. Sessional Lecturer III rate of pay will be $10,953.96. Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term rate of pay will be $11,228.90.
