The Department of Speech-Language Pathology in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invites applications for a three-year, full-time, contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) in the combined areas of biomedical engineering and speech, language, and/or swallowing science. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026 .

The successful candidate will pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level, establish an outstanding, competitive and externally funded research program, supervise research students and/or trainees, and integrate clinical and scientific knowledge into teaching.

Applicants must hold a PhD in biomedical engineering or a related research area, and have completed a post‑doctoral fellowship in biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), and speech‑language pathology. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching, particularly in rehabilitation engineering and biomedical image and signal processing within speech, language, and/or swallowing science. Experience supervising research students and trainees is required.

We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental foci.

Evidence of research excellence will be demonstrated by high‑quality peer‑reviewed publications in leading international journals, successful peer‑reviewed funding, a submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through a teaching dossier that includes a teaching statement, sample course syllabi, and teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to integrate clinical and scientific knowledge into their teaching design and delivery.

The expected salary range is $115,000–$130,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
