POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for two full-time tenure stream positions in Inorganic, Polymer, and/or Materials Chemistry. The appointments will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Chemistry or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching in the broadly defined area of Inorganic, Polymer, and/or Materials Chemistry. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. We seek applicants whose expertise and research interests include or bridge any of the following: main group chemistry, sustainable polymer or materials chemistry, renewable energy, nanochemistry, optoelectronics, precision polymer synthesis, dynamic and adaptive polymers/materials.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence through a detailed plan of future research (submitted research statement), as well as a demonstrated record of quality publications in top ranked and field relevant leading academic journals, presentations at significant conferences; awards and accolades; and strong endorsements from referees of high international standing.

We seek applicants with a strong academic background and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (including the required materials outlined below), as well as evidence of superior performance in other teaching-related activities, and strong letters of reference. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program (government, industry).

In addition, the successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load.

HIRING SALARY RANGE

The expected salary range is $130,000 to $170,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
