The Institute for Studies in Transdisciplinary Engineering Education and Practice (ISTEP) is the newest department in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering in the University of Toronto. U of T Engineering created ISTEP to drive change in how we prepare future engineering leaders. Our work lies at the intersection of engineering education, professional competencies and engineering practice, encompassing what and how we teach, who our students become, andwhat our students will do.

The first of its kind in Canada, ISTEP brings together existing and innovative initiatives, academic programming, scholarship and people from across the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering to create a vibrant ecosystem for instruction innovation. ISTEP is home to the:
Engineering Business Minor;
Engineering Communication Program (ECP);
Certificate in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Small Business;
Collaborative Specialization in Engineering Education (Eng Ed); and Troost Institute for Leadership Education in Engineering (Troost ILead).

Under the general direction of the Managing Director, Strategic Relations and Learner Experience, the incumbent will facilitate co-curricular learning for engaged students, alumni, and other key interest holders. The incumbent will help to coordinate and deliver programming and play a significant role in all our student-facing activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students, alumni, and other strategic partners
  • Consulting with instructors, administrators and student groups on the development of tailored programming needs
  • Conducting detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning
  • Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions;
    Conceptualizing, organizing and executing program activities

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Education, Psychology, or Organizational Development, or related field
  • Minimum 4 years of recent and related experience in curriculum and program design and delivery, with an emphasis on leadership development education
  • Experience developing and implementing program evaluation frameworks to measure learning outcomes and program effectiveness
  • Experience using qualitative and quantitative data to inform program planning, continuous improvement, and decision making
  • Experience developing and implementing outreach and engagement strategies to increase participation in programs and initaitives
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiential curriculum that prioritizes capacity building among students
  • Excellent communication skills (listening, speaking, presenting, writing)
  • Ability to manage a diverse, challenging and varying workload with multiple projects and deadlines
  • Skill and sensitivity in working with diverse groups of people
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently, showing initiative and good judgment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and thrive in a teamenvironment
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotions of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment
