About UsThe Department of Cell & Systems Biology (CSB) at the University of Toronto is a vibrant and highly collaborative scientific community that pursues innovative research in molecular life sciences, systems biology and biology education.
We investigate the behaviour of cells – the fundamental units of life – in terms of molecular processes within and between cells. Our researchers integrate both hypothesis-driven and discovery-based strategies to gain a mechanistic understanding of complex and highly dynamic cellular systems and how they govern the development, physiology, and evolution of organisms.
CSB is home to a world-class research ecosystem providing access to state-of-the-art platforms in
neurophysiology, high-throughput genomics, advanced cellular imaging, chemical biology, proteomics, and computational modeling
. These systems contribute to new methodologies for studying the fundamental biological mechanisms that govern interactions at all levels of complexity, ranging from molecules to communities.
