Dillon’s Transportation Structures Discipline seeks a Structural Engineer (Bridges) to deliver integrated, client‑focused solutions on new projects across Ontario. The role supports a multidisciplinary team and provides a client experience that combines technical leadership, project management and business development.
ResponsibilitiesWhat your day will look like
Design- Provide design leadership and technical expertise on structural projects, including bridges, culverts and other transportation structures.
- Prepare specifications, detail drawings and conduct code and regulatory review.
- Review shop drawings and field services during design and construction.
- Project‑manage structural engineering activities and support technical staff to deliver multidisciplinary projects.
- Coordinate design team activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
- Effectively engage with sub‑consultants and clients.
- Lead client service activities with emphasis on government and infrastructure contractor clients within the transportation market.
- Contribute to proposals and development of new business opportunities.
- Business travel upon request.
- Commit to self‑development and ongoing learning and professional development.
- Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.
What you will need to succeed
- A degree in civil engineering. A graduate‑level degree would be an asset.
- Licensed to practice as a professional engineer or eligible to be licensed within six months.
- Seven to ten years of relevant work experience in structural design.
Experience
- Experienced in the design of various bridge types, culverts and other transportation structures.
- Proficient in the full range of design activities, including preparation of preliminary and detail design drawings and reports, contract document preparation and tendering.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant structural engineering Codes and standards.
- Proficiency in the use of computer modeling techniques using SAP
2000, CSiBridge, STAAD and familiarity with current AutoCAD software. - Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency providing technical leadership to a team of professionals.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills along with verbal and written communication.
- Strong technical report and specification writing skills.
- Experience in construction contract administration would be an asset.
