CAD Designer, Lighting Design - Rail and Transit

The Opportunity:

WSP is seeking a CAD Designer with a specialization in
Lighting Design
to join our Rail & Transit Team in Toronto. You will collaborate with Engineers and Specialists to develop detailed design and drawing packages focused on
roadway and tunnel lighting systems,traffic signal systems, and photometric design
for both temporary and permanent installations. This role includes cable containment and electrical coordination responsibilities across transit infrastructure projects.

As a member of the Rail Systems Engineering team, you will contribute to defining processes and executing plans across multiple projects. Management will support your development toward leadership roles in a consulting environment.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Design lighting and traffic signal systems in accordance with applicable standards and specifications
  • Perform photometric analysis, lighting calculation and circuit design
  • Perform voltage drop calculations for lighting systems
  • Prepare detailed wiring diagrams for traffic signal and lighting installations
  • Design ductbanks and cabling infrastructure for lighting and signal systems
  • Generate contractual deliverables from models for client submission
  • Review and interpret existing conditions, drawings, and specifications
  • Prepare drawings in strict accordance with CADD requirements and design directives
  • Participate in interdisciplinary coordination and interface resolution meetings
  • Liaise with clients, co-consultants, and attend workshops to present design concepts
  • Apply a proactive, entrepreneurial attitude to problem-solving and client engagement

What you’ll bring to WSP:

Core

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in engineering or design
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
  • High attention to detail and professional integrity

Technical

Qualifications:

  • Experience with roadway lighting, tunnel lighting and traffic signal system
  • Experience with

    PHM-125 traffic signal drawings
  • Familiarity with

    City of Toronto Traffic Signal Standards,Region of Peel specifications,Toronto Hydro and Alectra Utilities standards
  • Knowledge of Toronto Hydro and Alectra coordination processes
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station, Revit, AGI
    32
  • Experience producing consistent and professional CADD drawings
  • Familiarity with TTC/Metrolinx CADD standards
  • Experience in drawing control and version registration
  • Ensure compliance with ESA, CSA, and other applicable codes and standards

Desirable

Qualifications:

  • Leadership and team coordination experience
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams in a matrix organization
  • Experience in a consulting engineering environment
