The Environmental & Sustainability Counsel will join the Legal and Sustainability team to support permitting, environmental regulatory strategy, ESG implementation, and stakeholder engagement across Kinterra’s global portfolio of critical minerals investments.
This is a hands-on, generalist role that blends legal advisory, environmental compliance, transactional diligence, and stakeholder communication. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented lawyer who is an exceptional communicator, enjoys drafting, and thrives in an environment that requires flexibility, curiosity, and a willingness to take ownership.
The role supports transactions, development, operations, external reporting, and cross-functional initiatives. Candidates must be comfortable “reaching up” to support strategic work and “reaching down” to execute foundational tasks essential to the team’s success.
The position reports to the Partner, Sustainability and works closely with the technical and the investment team.
Role-Specific Accountabilities Environmental, Permitting & Regulatory Support- Support advise, with the assistance of local counsel and experts, on permitting pathways, regulatory requirements, and environmental obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Assist with preparation, review, and coordination of environmental assessments, baseline studies, permit applications, compliance schedules, and regulatory filings.
- Support the development of environmental management systems, permitting strategies, and sustainability frameworks across portfolio companies.
- Conduct legal research on environmental, land use, mining, water, energy, and related regulations.
- Draft quarterly update materials, sustainability reporting, investor disclosures, portfolio-level ESG assessments, and internal briefing notes.
- Support preparation of investor communications, thought leadership, and reporting aligned with Kinterra’s sustainability commitments.
- Work closely with the Sustainability team to embed environmental, social and permitting considerations into investment processes, asset oversight, and monetization.
- Conduct environmental and permitting due diligence during acquisitions and divestitures, including travel to sites and meetings with management teams.
- Draft due diligence summaries, risk matrices, issue-spotting memos, and closing deliverables.
- Assist in the mark-up of transaction documents, particularly on environmental issues.
- Support engagement with regulators, government agencies, Indigenous communities, local stakeholders, NGOs, and permitting authorities.
- Develop briefing materials, engagement logs, and communications that reflect cultural awareness and project sensitivities.
- Assist in maintaining and monitoring stakeholder commitments.
