Reporting to the EHS Director, the Safety Lead is a leader of safety excellence, responsible for ensuring compliance with the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) plan and assisting in the supervision of the assigned project.

• Administer the EHS Program and promote the highest level of safety.
• Provide direction and support for managers, supervisors, and sub-contractors regarding their responsibilities for maintaining a positive and inclusive safety culture.
• Ensure all workplace parties fulfill their responsibilities for the EHS program.
• Participate in the pre‑planning stages of work.
• Prepare and assist with external safety audits such as (COR).
• Participate in site‑walks with the workers’ safety representatives to assess safety measures and address any deficiencies.
• Support project specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures, including inspections, audits, observation, coaching, Worker Trades Committee, and JHSC.
• Facilitate site specific safety orientation to workers, owners, and clients.
• Train employees on Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual, fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, WHMIS, respiratory protection, First Aid, Fork lift, fire emergency, and emergency evacuations.
• Track and report safety‑related statistics, modified duties cases at the field level, and manage return to work.
• Conduct behavioural observation in the workplace.
• Update Material Safety Data Sheets as required.
• Develop workplace plans – such as emergency evacuations (Emergency Response Plan), fire emergency, traffic controls, fall protection, etc.
