Job Description- Validates manufacturing process proposed by suppliers for new product industrialization in line with Safran requirements.
- Extracts and validates Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) files and provides them to suppliers for submittal.
- Works in a cross‑functional team to review and manage risk throughout the product lifecycle.
- Plans and validates all industrialization deliverables in line with the project lead schedule.
- Approves all SAP DVI P.O.s placed prior to release to the supplier.
- Reviews and approves applicable first‑article documentation.
- Provides technical support to suppliers in industrialization.
- Verifies suppliers’ qualifications and approvals are in compliance with drawing requirements.
- Supports suppliers’ queries and Request For Drawing Change (RFDC) submittals and tracks them to closure.
- Performs supplier training on Safran requirements and processes to ensure the production of parts.
- Assists with engineering investigations (liaison between supplier and engineering).
- Leads certification audits required during the industrialization phase.
- Supports incoming inspection queries on first‑article deliveries.
- Manages all nonconformance during the industrialization phase.
Contacts and Relationships to be maintained: Internally – Procurement, Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Quality and Receiving Inspectors. Externally – Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering contacts.
Magnitude/Scope of Responsibility: Validation that industrialization processes of a supplier have produced parts to our requirements with approved subcontractors through the DVI/PPAP process.
Degree of Confidentiality: A degree of confidentiality when it comes to supplier and or Safran specific process knowledge (proprietary).
Ownership of Processes/Procedures: DVI/PPAP completeness, supplier queries, concession and change management during industrialization, ensuring a successful transfer of product and knowledge to suppliers.
Candidate Skills & Requirements- A background (5+ years) in quality and/or manufacturing engineering in the aerospace industry.
- Strong problem solving with critical thinking, attention to detail, and excellent judgment/decision‑making skills.
- Knowledge of the company’s quality system, processes and specifications.
- Experience/knowledge of machining, NDT, special processing and assembly of landing gear parts and assembly processes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of management and including supplier management.
- Ability to read drawings and understand/work in or with Catia models through our Enovia system.
- In‑depth knowledge of the PPAP process and requirements in an APQP environment.
- Good computer (Microsoft Office products), analytical, statistical and interpretative skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel frequently.
- Ability to work safely, adhering to any Health and Safety policy as well as maintain a high level of 5S for a clean and safe work environment.
- Ability to present to suppliers and internal personnel.
- Good negotiation and time‑management skills.
Education and/or
Certifications:
Preferably a degree in manufacturing engineering or Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP) / Quality Engineer (CQE).
Specialized Knowledge: A strong quality background in the aerospace industry is preferred. Knowledge of aerospace raw material grades, NDT, H/T, and special processing part requirements for various class levels of parts. Familiarity with landing gear manufacturing and assembly practices and quality requirements.
