The Environmental Specialist plays a central role in supporting ONxpress’ environmental program by leading the procurement, coordination, and performance oversight of environmental consultants. This position ensures that all contracted environmental services are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with project requirements, regulatory obligations, and ONxpress’ Environmental Management System (EMS).
Working closely with Environmental Managers, and the Procurement, Commercial and project delivery teams, the Environmental Specialist will manage the full lifecycle of consultant engagement—from scoping and procurement to performance tracking and closeout. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of environmental compliance, project controls, and Service Provider management.
In addition to consultant management, the Environmental Specialist is responsible for maintaining organized, accurate, and compliant environmental documentation. This includes tracking deliverables, managing document workflows, and ensuring that all consultant reports, permits, and records are properly controlled and accessible to project teams.
The Environmental Specialist'sKey Responsibilities Are
- Lead the procurement process for environmental consultants, including developing scopes of work, supporting competitive bidding, evaluating proposals, and coordinating contract award process.
- Manage consultant onboarding and ensure alignment with ONxpress’ environmental standards, project requirements, and EMS procedures.
- Track and manage consultant budgets, forecasts, and expenditures, ensuring financial accuracy and proactive cost control.
- Monitor consultant schedules, deliverables, and milestones to ensure timely completion of work.
- Evaluate consultant performance, identify risks or delays, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Maintain centralized records of consultant contracts, change orders, invoices and performance documentation.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure consultant work supports environmental compliance, permitting, and reporting obligations.
- Support the development of environmental scopes, budgets, and schedules for future project phases.
- Prepare summary reports on consultant performance, budget status, and schedule progress for internal leadership.
- Assist with continuous improvement of procurement and consultant management processes.
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, or a related discipline.
- 3–6 years of experience in environmental compliance, environmental consulting, or environmental project coordination—preferably in environmental consulting.
- Experience managing or procuring environmental consultants or technical service providers.
- Strong understanding of project budgeting, scheduling, and performance tracking.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations, permitting processes, and compliance requirements in Ontario.
- Experience working within or supporting an Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Proficiency with project management or tracking tools (e.g., Excel, and Procore) is an asset.
- Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary project environment.
Salary Range: 90, CAD Annually
