Réalis Engineering Services group, the municipal infrastructure team specializes in providing a full range of engineering services for infrastructure projects to local, national, and international clients. We are looking for a Municipal Engineer to join our growing team to work on one of the most important Canadian airport projects. The position is 100% in‑office in Toronto.
- Provide advice, guidance and subject‑matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of the program as it relates to municipal infrastructure design and construction, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
- Ensure municipal design and construction comply with technical requirements, including design reviews, submittal reviews, and testing.
- Conduct Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for all proposed upgrades, alterations, maintenance work and new construction.
- Provide non‑resident engineering expertise through field inspections during various stages of construction.
- Oversee servicing, including water, sanitary sewer, storm water, gas, roads, bridges, underground lift stations and parking garages, providing expert advice on capacity, demand and reliability of existing systems.
- Assess alternative technical proposals submitted by the contractor and provide feedback on feasibility and alignment to requirements.
- Co‑ordinate the technical elements of the program with respect to municipal infrastructure engineering and establish targets/goals.
- Co‑ordinate the interface between other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure integration and coordination across programs, facilities and assets.
- Review deliverables submitted by the contractor/designer and confirm compliance to the relevant requirements, codes, and standards.
- Monitor the input of the designer throughout the construction phase (RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock‑up approvals, punch list, etc.).
- Provide management‑level progress reports and briefings on structural design progress, issues, and opportunities.
- Coach, mentor, and support the career development of project staff.
- Recognized degree in civil engineering with a municipal engineering concentration.
- Relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in municipal infrastructure design, construction, commissioning, distribution, systems protection, control, capacity and future demand requirements, operations and maintenance of water distribution, sanitary and storm water management systems, and environmental engineering principles for major developments, including airport and Canadian aerodrome standards.
- Extensive knowledge of applicable local, provincial, and federal regulations, codes and standards as they relate to municipal infrastructure and environmental requirements.
- Strong knowledge of underground servicing, municipal road design and water resource principles.
- Experience with preliminary and final design of roads, bridges and municipal systems and facilities.
- Experience developing and reviewing servicing, grading and drainage designs and performing field inspections related to municipal works and standards.
- Demonstrated experience in use of Micro Station/BIM/AutoCAD, Bentley InRoads/Open Roads Designer 3D modelling programs.
- Knowledge of applying the principles of asset management for municipal infrastructure.
- Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings/workshops with large groups of stakeholders.
Expected compensation for this role is between $93,800 and $129,000 annually (base salary).
