Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)
Perform system design, signaling design, analysis, modeling, and simulation to specify communication-based train control systems. Develop and define system design features to meet customer requirements. Analyze and evaluate customer requirements and verify compliance with product system technical requirements. Define system and subsystem requirements to fulfill customer needs. Communicate and obtain acceptance of the design with customers and internal stakeholders. Lead the team in performing system design activities to deliver high-quality and safe guideway design on time, at lowest cost, and meeting customer requirements.
Adapt system design processes to meet project deployment and industry standards. Manage the work package to organize and assign work to system engineers, manage budget and schedule for system design work. Overall responsibility for the overall system design of the project.
- Technical:
- Prepare and support customer requirements compliance assessment, gap analysis, and architecture design.
- Convert customer requirements into conceptual designs and prepare associated documentation by performing operational analyses, simulations, and technical trade‑off studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features.
- Create new concepts or modify existing concepts to fulfill customer requirements.
- Prepare system, subsystem, and interface requirement specifications by analyzing and decomposing, modeling, and refining customer requirements and train control domain requirements.
- Prepare Operational Concept Document.
- Support bids and proposals, including customer requirements compliance assessment, gap analysis, architecture design, simulation, trade‑off of key features, and cost estimation.
- Present technical design and reports to customers and/or other engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise, and non‑ambiguous terms.
- Identify and update system processes based on specific project/product needs while aligning with industry standards to ensure efficient, high‑quality designs.
- Evaluate and define operational design limits.
- Ensure strong working relationships between the system design team and Software, Hardware, Safety, and IVVQ groups.
- Encourage adherence to development processes within the system team.
- Safety:
- Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount.
- Ensure that safety is incorporated into the design by identifying and resolving safety‑related defects early in the process.
- Management:
- Supervise contractors and system specialists by defining tasks, coaching them, monitoring progress, and setting priorities.
- Propose work package estimates and descriptions based on project knowledge and requirements.
- Lead technical discussions, present solutions, and provide regular status reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Mentor other systems engineers by coaching, monitoring progress, and providing technical guidance while directing priorities.
- Collaborate with Work Package Managers and other project team members to ensure inputs and outputs are managed effectively within the system design team.
