Engineering Full Time North York, ON $65,000 - $80,000 CAD per year
Superwake is an aerospace and defense company based in North York, focused on the design, manufacturing, and operation of advanced uncrewed aerial vehicles. Our work combines aerospace engineering and modern manufacturing to create reliable aircraft designed for a variety of applications.
Superwake is a small, fast‑moving team where engineers and technicians work directly on complete aircraft systems, from early design and prototyping to testing and real‑world operations.
About the RoleAs a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of drone systems and related manufacturing tools, including internal components, composite parts, molds, fixtures, and prototype hardware. You will use CATIA to produce detailed models, drawings, assemblies, BOM updates, and manufacturing documentation while working closely with project managers, engineering leads, and manufacturing staff to move designs from concept through build‑ready release.
Responsibilities- Create and revise 3D CAD models, assemblies, subassemblies, and 2D drawings in CATIA.
- Design internal drone components with attention to weight, manufacturability, durability, field use, and serviceability.
- Design molds, jigs, fixtures, and tooling to support manufacturing and prototyping.
- Prepare manufacturing‑ready documentation, drawings, BOMs, and supplier/manufacturer files.
- Perform basic engineering checks, tolerance reviews, and design tradeoff assessments.
- Support prototyping activities and incorporate lessons learned into design updates.
- Communicate task progress regularly and raise blockers and risks to the engineering team lead.
- Work closely with project managers, design managers, and manufacturing staff to clarify requirements and complete assigned tasks.
- Incorporate manufacturing feedback to improve part design, mold design, buildability, ergonomics, and tool access.
- Maintain accurate documentation and proactively manage assigned mechanical design tasks through completion.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Design.
- 2-5 years of mechanical design experience.
- Experience with drone, aerospace, or similarly complex mechanical design projects.
- Understanding of lightweight design principles where weight, strength, packaging, and manufacturability are key trade‑offs.
- Familiarity with composite part design and composite mold/tooling considerations.
- Ability to take assigned tasks, clarify requirements, work independently, and produce quality design outputs.
- Strong attention to detail and good documentation habits.
- Comfortable working in a small‑company environment where priorities may shift and people contribute across design, manufacturing, and prototyping.
- Experience with 3D printing and prototype development.
- Hands‑on exposure to composite manufacturing or layup processes.
- Experience designing fixtures, molds, or manufacturing aids.
