Job DescriptionThe Senior Municipal Engineer is a senior‑level civil engineering role focused on the delivery of municipal and transportation infrastructure projects in Toronto, Ontario, Canada . The position supports traditional municipal business projects, acting as a transportation engineer on both provincial highway and local municipal roadway assignments across preliminary and detailed design phases.
The role leads civil roadway components for complex infrastructure programs, including freeways, urban and rural roadways, interchanges, and intersections. Work requires close coordination with watermain, storm, sanitary, drainage, and utilities disciplines to deliver integrated municipal infrastructure solutions. Project delivery spans planning, design development, and construction support within regulated provincial and municipal environments.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in roadway and municipal engineering, strong knowledge of Ontario transportation standards, and the ability to provide technical leadership, quality control, and mentorship within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Reporting to the Manager of Municipal Engineering, the Senior Municipal Engineer will support the overall success of Traditional Business Projects in Canada for Egis Canada Ltd.
- Act as a Transportation engineer for both provincial highways and local municipal roadways in preliminary and detailed design components of major projects.
- Lead and manage the civil roadway components of major projects from inception to completion, including freeways, urban and rural multi‑lane and two‑lane facilities, interchanges, and intersections, and incorporate data from other disciplines such as watermain, storm, and sanitary services/mains.
- Provide technical guidance, support, and oversight to junior engineers and technical staff working on projects.
- Prepare technical reports, contract documents, design drawings, quantity estimates, and cost estimates.
- Create and review / perform quality control checks on plans, profiles, and design quantities in Civil 3D/InRoads/Open Roads design format.
- Complete initial site inspections/field work for design assignments.
- Maintain positive client relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Keep current on the latest design tools and aids in CAD/Civil 3D/Microstation/InRoads/Open Roads Design in consultation with senior CAD staff.
- University degree in Civil Engineering and licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
- Minimum 12 years of experience in municipal and roadway engineering.
- Developed an excellent reputation working with MTO/Municipalities.
- Experienced with highway engineering and has worked in or has an understanding of the consulting engineering environment.
- Knowledge of highway engineering, including policies, regulations, guidelines and operational procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in detailed design work with proven design capabilities.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with clients, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving skills and ability to think creatively.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.
