Position: Structural Co-op (Fall 2026)

HDR is seeking a dynamic engineering student for a 4‑ or 8‑month placement (or longer) at our downtown Toronto office. The role focuses on building structural systems across a range of projects in various stages of design and construction. The successful candidate will be mentored by senior team members and will have opportunities to work with subject‑matter experts experienced in steel, concrete, mass timber, and masonry structures.

Responsibilities
  • Offer real‑world experience on exciting projects
  • Connect with recent college graduates and company leaders through mentoring and young professionals programs
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform assignments under direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
  • Conduct supervised design calculations and element design focused on steel, concrete, mass timber and masonry structures
  • Produce sketches and drawings to communicate design concepts
  • Review and interpret documents to support construction activities
  • Participate in field reviews or investigations to support construction activities
  • Prepare field reports based on onsite observations
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward a degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to the field of study or industry
  • Skilled in using CAD software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu
  • Skilled in any structural analytical program like SAP
    2000, ETABS, SAFE, RISA3D, RAM, and similar applications
  • Knowledge of engineering principles associated with building structural systems for steel, concrete, and masonry structures
  • Past experience working with an engineering firm
  • Independent learner who can learn new skills quickly
  • Successful working in a team environment
  • Keen observer with strong attention to detail
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong problem‑solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills

Ontario hourly pay range $21.00 – $31.00
