Tunnel Design Lead – WSP
Role OverviewLead the advancement of complex underground infrastructure as a Tunnel Design Lead, where technical excellence meets strategic influence. In this senior role you will shape the delivery and growth of tunnelling and underground projects across mining, hydropower, and transportation sectors while strengthening client relationships and expanding WSP’s market presence.
Responsibilities- Lead the technical delivery of tunnelling and underground design projects from concept through construction support.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor and primary client interface, strengthening long‑term partnerships.
- Drive business growth by contributing to proposals, pursuits, and strategic client engagements.
- Provide expert oversight on tunnel alignment, excavation methods, ground support, and geo‑structural design.
- Champion safety, quality, constructability, and risk management across all project phases.
- Mentor and develop multidisciplinary teams, building technical depth and succession within the practice.
- Collaborate across disciplines to deliver innovative, integrated underground solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering with a focus on tunnelling (Master’s preferred).
- 15+ years of experience in tunnelling and underground infrastructure design.
- 5+ years leading or managing underground design projects.
- Proven experience as a Tunnel Design Lead on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
- Active membership with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Strong technical communication skills with the ability to influence clients and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required and legally authorized to work in Canada.

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $132,700 – $175,800
MB & ON: $121,100 – $166,700
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $119,900 – $159,200
