Location: Southern Ontario/Toronto Area (Hybrid / Occasional travel to Scarborough)

Contract Type: Independent Sub-contractor (B2B / Sole Proprietor or Incorporated)

Duration: 12-Month Fixed Term Contract (Part-time project capacity)

About the Opportunity

Envirolum Consulting Inc. is an established, specialized environmental compliance firm with a 25-year industry footprint. We collaborate with senior-level enterprise clients across Ontario to architect and deploy practical, lean compliance and management systems.

We are looking to secure a trusted Independent Consultant or Sub-contractor to support a major 12-month project, with possibility of project to extend. Envirolum’s Principal Consultant will be leading this project as the primary strategic lead and client liaison.

This contract is ideal for an independent practitioner or small-firm owner looking to secure a stable, predictable baseline project for their portfolio over the next year. Working under the strategic direction of our Principal Consultant, you will act as the core technical execution resource, taking a prominent multi-building food manufacturing facility in Scarborough through to successful ISO 14001:2015 certification.

Role Description

This is a contract hybrid role (occasional site visits, approximately 1 day per week, based in Scarborough, Ontario, for an Intermediate Environmental Compliance Consultant specializing in ISO 14001 standards. The consultant will oversee environmental compliance assessments, conduct detailed environmental impact/risk analyses, provide consulting services to industrial clients, and ensure alignment with ISO 14001 and other regulatory requirements. Other responsibilities include writing technical reports, supporting environmental management systems, and collaborating with clients to meet compliance objectives effectively.

Working in tandem with the Envirolum Principal Consultant, your responsibilities may include:

  • EMS System Architecture: Co-executing a comprehensive clause-by-clause ISO 14001:2015 gap analysis and executing a prioritized 12-month operational roadmap.
  • Technical Register Compilation: Supporting the hands-on data collection, chemical/stream profiling, and drafting for the facility's Environmental Aspects & Impacts scoring matrices and a localized Compliance Obligations Register
    .
  • Procedural Integration: Drafting and co-authoring streamlined SOPs and environmental tools designed to nest directly into the client’s existing business structure.
  • On-Site Implementation & Training: Customizing and facilitating targeted, role-based environmental awareness sessions and operational control training on the plant floor.
  • Audit Verification: Supporting the pre-assessment internal audit cycle and providing on-site technical support during the formal Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification audits lead by the Principal Consultant.
Qualifications & Technical Prerequisites
  • Strong skills in Environmental Compliance and Environmental Consulting
  • Proficiency in Report Writing, with the ability to create detailed and accurate documentation
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 standards and their application in industrial settings
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in industrial sectors such as manufacturing or food industry is an asset
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Experience: 5+ years of direct experience managing environmental compliance, EHS programs, or sustainability frameworks within a Canadian manufacturing or food processing setting.
  • ISO 14001 Mastery
    :
    Advanced operational understanding of the ISO 14001:2015 standard and a proven track record of implementing auditable EMS frameworks.
  • Regulatory Literacy
    :
    Strong fluency in Ontario’s environmental regulatory landscape (MECP, waste manifests, air/noise compliance, municipal sewer bylaws).
  • Analytical

    Skills:

    Advanced capability in data management (MS Excel, chemical tracking, and mapping facility inputs/outputs). Proficiency with Microsoft Office
