Company Description

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance of the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package. As Ontario Transit Group, we are mobilizing our design and construction crews for major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030. The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What

is the project?
  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).
Job Description

The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities for mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring all systems are installed, tested, and operating in full compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements. The role requires close collaboration with specialized subcontractors and project teams, overseeing commissioning procedures, documentation, and system performance.

The salary range for this position is $125,000 CAD - $155,000 CAD, plus additional benefits.

Key Responsibilities Commissioning & Testing
  • Plan, manage, and execute commissioning activities for all assigned mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ensure systems are commissioned in accordance with approved specifications, drawings, standards, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Witness and verify factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), pre-commissioning, functional testing, and performance testing.
  • Identify, record, and track commissioning issues, deficiencies, and non-conformities until closure.
Subcontractor Coordination
  • Lead and coordinate commissioning activities carried out by specialist subcontractors responsible for the systems.
  • Ensure subcontractors follow approved commissioning plans, methods, and safety procedures.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, schedules, and deliverables to ensure alignment with project milestones.
Procedures & Documentation
  • Review, evaluate, and comment on commissioning procedures, method statements, test scripts, and checklists submitted by subcontractors.
  • Propose corrections, improvements, or modifications to procedures to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure all commissioning records, test results, and as-built documentation are completed, accurate, and properly submitted.
  • Support preparation of operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals and system handover documentation.
Coordination & Interface Management
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with construction, QA/QC, HSE, project management, consultants, and client representatives.
  • Ensure readiness of systems for commissioning, including mechanical completion, energization, flushing, cleaning, and pre-start checks.
  • Plan and sequence commissioning activities to avoid clashes and minimize impacts on overall project schedule.
Compliance & Quality
  • Verify compliance of systems with project specifications, statutory regulations, and applicable international standards.
  • Ensure safety requirements are strictly followed during all commissioning activities.
  • Provide technical support to resolve system integration and operational issues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in commissioning of MEP and electrical systems on large-scale projects.
  • Proven experience coordinating and supervising specialist subcontractors.
  • Strong coordination and leadership skills.
  • Ability to review and develop commissioning procedures and test plans.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Sound understanding of commissioning best practices, codes, and standards.
  • An analytical and problem‑solving mindset.
