Position: Chief Estimator, Infrastructure | General Contractor |  | Outpost Recruitment

Leading buildings & infrastructure contractor is seeking a Chief Estimator with experience across civil and infrastructure projects to join their team in Toronto, ON. Our Client is seeking top-tier talent to further strengthen capabilities. Salary range $180,000 – $250,000. Outpost Recruitment is excited to work with our client on this full-time permanent role.

Reporting to the District Manager, the Chief Estimator is responsible for overseeing all of the estimating operations within a business unit, and supervises the estimating process by developing divisional manpower, coaching / mentoring, providing input into project pursuit approvals, overseeing allocation of estimating resources, reviewing estimates, and managing tender closings / pursuit submissions.

Responsibilities of Chief Estimator:
  • Encourage and instill coaching and mentoring skills to the estimating team.
  • Oversee all estimates, including detailed review of others’ work.
  • Complete project scope of work reviews to ensure completeness of estimates, and that all technical specifications, subcontractor scopes, and general condition items have been quantified and costed.
  • Identify and develop constructability requirements for orders of magnitude and high-level budgeting.
  • Propose and approve project risk and cost mitigation as well as the potential for project opportunities and cost savings.
  • Propose and approve potential bid strategies, constructability requirements, and advantages or innovations to increase bidding success.
  • Provide leadership for the estimating team on major complex projects pursuit.
  • Build effective relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders (operations staff) that reflect and support core company values and brand image
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of Chief Estimator:
  • Working knowledge of contract language and legal requirements of contracts.
  • Excellent technical, organizational, managerial and planning skills.
  • Team leader with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with well developed communication and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to assist in determining bid strategies.
  • Chief Estimator has advanced communication and collaborative skills, interpersonal managerial leadership, and a thorough understanding of the company’s objectives
  • Chief Estimator is able to think strategically and develop innovative ways of aiding the company’s success from an estimating and market relationship perspective
  • You will also further hone your skills operating under various delivery methods including Bid-Build, Design-Build, Construction Management and IPD (Integrated Project Delivery)
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience, Qualifications of Chief Estimator:
  • Completion of a University (Bachelor) program involving acquisition of an advanced understanding of complex concepts and procedures, often recognized by a degree (e.g., BA/BSc);
    Gold Seal Certified, LEED Accredited, LEAN experience, MRICS, and CIQS are all assets
  • Chief Estimator will have over 15 years of a combination of field and estimating experience with senior estimating experience of at least 5 years with a medium-to-large General Contractor.
  • Leadership responsibilityrelated to roads, bridges, railor other infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in Water/Wastewater and/or Transit projects is considered an asset
  • Successful experience in leading Level 3+ projects and managing and mentoring of a small team.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team
  • Thorough understanding and proficiency in design-build and other procurement types is an asset.

Compensation:

Competitive salary: $160,000 – $220,000 depending on experience. Great benefits package, 4 weeks’ vacation, monthly public transit pass, fitness membership, training opportunities, summer hours and more.
