This role is part of Aecon Utilities and supports the Hamilton LRT project. The incumbent will assist the Project Manager by preparing and reviewing dry utility design drawings and calculations for the project to ensure accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of design packages.

• Complete moderate to complex design drawings, quantity calculations and as‑built drawings for utility and light rail transit (LRT) projects using software packages such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, SPIDA Calc, PLS‑CADD, IKE Office, Pull Planner and AGi

• Work with permit drawings, LRT corridor plans and municipal regulations to understand project scope, rail clearances, utility conflicts and transit authority standards.
• Apply LRT‑specific design requirements including grounding and bonding, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), stray current mitigation, clearance envelopes and integration with track, systems and civil infrastructure.
• Collaborate with Project Engineers to ensure accuracy of drawings.
• Provide feedback on internal design processes, tools and best practices to promote continuous improvement.
• Consult with Project Engineers and Field Inspectors to resolve complex design and field issues, such as utility conflicts, clearance violations and construction constraints in rail environments.
• Manage project schedules and deliverables with support from senior team members.
• Track quality of project deliverables and completion within budget, monitoring project hours.
• Train Project Technicians on design fundamentals, quality expectations and LRT‑specific considerations.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Post‑secondary education in Electrical, Civil Engineering or Architecture.
• Minimum eight years of design experience with utility projects, specifically telecommunications, hydro and gas.
• Substantial understanding of reviewing electrical/civil engineering drawings and site plans.
• Strong understanding of municipality standards.
• Minimum three years drafting experience using AutoCAD or Micro Station, with strong proficiency in AutoCAD including customization of scripts, tools and menus.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, BIM and Common Data Environment is considered an asset.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) with strong capabilities in document creation and data analysis.
• Familiarity with CSA standards is considered a strong asset.
• Excellent safety and attendance record and a demonstrated strong safety awareness.

The expected pay range for this role is $60,000 – $90,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on factors such as location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training and the complexity or scope of the role.
