The Engineer, Water Resources Engineering is responsible for the review and commenting on routine development and infrastructure applications associated with the Planning Act, the Environmental Assessment Act (EA) and applications pursuant to the Conservation Authorities Act, Ontario Regulation 166/06 (O. Reg. 166/06). Under the direction of the Senior Engineer, Water Resources Engineering, conducts standard designs for internal projects with the focus on water resources engineering.
MajorResponsibilities
- Reviews and comments to guide design for standard development and permit applications related to subdivision plans, site plans, and zoning amendments, plans of condominium, erosion and sediment controls, and private-sector infrastructure works
- Reviews and comments to guide the design for standard infrastructure applications related to new/replacement infrastructure (e.g. large culvert and bridge replacements, roadway widenings, public building, parking structures)
- Reviews and comments to guide design for complex multi-discipline infrastructure applications (public sector works) related to new and replacement infrastructure, including Master Plan studies, large roadway studies, and public building and parking structures
- Reviews standard level applications with a focus on the water resources engineering requirements, including checking the hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, stormwater management, grading, floodplain management, water balance, fluvial geomorphology, and erosion and sediment control plans for compliance to TRCA and provincial standards and guidelines
- Meets with internal stakeholders to collaborate on comments, discussing potential comments that overlap other technical specialties, ensuring all stakeholders understand issues related to the application
- Supports the Senior Engineer, Water Resources by providing technical design and input to internal projects, including hydraulic and hydrologic modelling for floodplain management, stormwater management, site design, grading, and reporting
- Completes technical reviews of project work submitted by external consultants in support of Infrastructure and Restoration Division projects to ensure compliance with TRCA and provincial standards and guidelines
- Performs on‑call after‑hours function approximately 8-12 times a year, completing daily operational tasks and procedures as per Flood Forecasting and Warning Program
- Completes daily operations tasks and procedures as per Flood Forecasting and Warning Program documentation and processes, including direction of dam operations, responding to public inquiries, issuing public flood messages, various decision making and overall assessment of flood risk for TRCA’s jurisdiction; including documentation of decisions, communications and actions
- Responds to public and municipal stakeholder inquiries regarding flood risk and related flood communications
- University degree in an Engineering, Water Resources or related discipline
