IDEAL CANDIDATEThe successful candidate will bring 10+ years of relevant experience and a demonstrated history of leading complex initiatives involving electricity system planning, market analysis, policy development, and regulatory matters.
This individual combines deep technical knowledge with strong analytical, strategic, communication, and leadership capabilities. They can provide practical, evidence-based recommendations to utilities, system operators, regulators, governments, and other stakeholders throughout North America, particularly where electricity planning, decarbonization, policy, and implementation intersect.
You are an effective leader who can communicate clearly, navigate ambiguity, and solve problems pragmatically. You are motivated by helping shape decisions that support a reliable, affordable, and low-carbon energy future. You can comfortably move between high-level strategic discussions and detailed technical considerations, guiding multidisciplinary teams while relying on subject-matter experts for specialized analysis.
You are passionate about supporting both the decarbonization and expansion of electricity systems, alongside the growth of clean fuels, to enable broader economy-wide emissions reductions across transportation, buildings, industry, and digital infrastructure.
Required Qualifications- Minimum 10 years of professional experience within the energy sector
- Strong knowledge of Canadian electricity systems and familiarity with U.S. power markets
- Comprehensive understanding of electricity-sector regulations, policy frameworks, technologies, market trends, and industry practices
- Experience with utility planning processes, including Integrated Resource Planning (IRP), bulk system planning, and related industry methodologies
- Experience leading or overseeing sophisticated electricity system modeling projects involving areas such as load forecasting, capacity expansion, production cost modeling, reliability assessments, and financial analysis
- Strong understanding of electricity-sector decarbonization pathways and the impacts of electrification across sectors
- Proven project leadership experience on medium- to large-scale engagements, including team direction, risk management, quality assurance, and stakeholder coordination
- Ability to guide technical teams, challenge assumptions, and interpret analytical findings without necessarily conducting all modeling activities directly
- Experience applying rigorous QA/QC practices to technical analyses and client-facing deliverables
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into concise, actionable insights
- Consulting experience, including proposal preparation and strategic client advisory services
- Experience managing key client relationships and serving as an account lead
- Knowledge of transmission planning processes and associated modeling tools
- Experience in load forecasting, inter-regional planning, and integrated multi-fuel or economy-wide energy planning
- Familiarity with building, transportation, and industrial decarbonization strategies
- Understanding of distributed energy resources (DERs) and grid integration considerations
- Knowledge of electricity market design, including energy, capacity, and ancillary service markets
- Established professional relationships with Canadian utilities, regulators, system operators, or government organizations
