Position Purpose

The Environmental Management Specialist provides analytical and technical support for broad-based environmental processes, assessments, compliance and practices across a range of infrastructure projects, IO programs and initiatives. This requires a multi-disciplinary understanding of environmental fields including natural environment, environmental contamination and remediation, cultural heritage and archaeology, sustainability, energy, and climate resilience. This role ensures regulatory compliance and supports project advancement through effective coordination with internal teams, vendors, and external stakeholders.

The position plays a key role in managing and supporting projects, providing technical direction and strategic advice, and supporting procurement and project oversight activities.

What You Will Do
  • Oversee and/or support due diligence studies such as, Class Environmental Assessments (EAs), Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), cultural heritage studies, archaeological assessments, natural environment studies, and climate resilience assessments to enable the advancement of IO projects and programs
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and regulators to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Oversee procurement processes including preparing contract documents, reviewing vendor submissions, and managing purchase orders and invoices.
  • Track and manage project budgets and timelines, ensuring efficient delivery of services.
  • Provide technical direction and strategic advice to project teams, including summarizing due diligence findings and recommending next steps.
  • Support communication and relationship management with clients, consultants, stakeholders, and regulators.
  • Contribute to process improvements and lessons learned to enhance future project delivery.
  • Work independently on assigned projects while collaborating with Environmental Management leadership on complex initiatives.
Who You Are
  • A university degree in a relevant discipline and several years of experience in environmental management or related field is preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge of environmental disciplines. This may include:
    Class Environmental Assessments, environmental contamination and remediation, natural environment, cultural heritage, archaeology, energy, sustainability and/or climate resilience.
  • Familiarity working under applicable environmental legislation and regulations, including, but not limited to:
    Environmental Assessment Act, O.Reg. 9/06 and 10/06 under the Ontario Heritage Act, Endangered Species Act, Fisheries Act, O.Reg 153/04 of the Environmental Protection Act, etc.
  • Experience with environmental due diligence processes and assessments in support of application regulatory approvals and permits.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments and with external agencies.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes and vendor management.
  • A solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.
