Job Description:

Environmental Permitting Specialist

Come join us in reshaping the future with Atkins Ralis. Atkins Ralis is dedicated to engineering a better future for our planet and its people.

Our highly respected and successful Environmental Permitting and Management team has an ever-growing portfolio of work, built on technical excellence and exceptional service to our clients. We have a particular need for support on our infrastructure, power, and renewables projects.

We are looking for an Environmental Permitting Specialist to support a wide variety of energy and infrastructure environmental assessment and planning projects, particularly in the nuclear sector.

The ideal candidate must have robust work experience with environmental standards and regulations in relation to environmental assessments and permitting, be motivated and detail-oriented, and have demonstrable experience in Canada.

This mid‑level career role is located in Ontario, although we will consider other locations nationally.

Our work includes delivering keystone projects throughout their lifecycle: from early assessment of constraints to strategic development of regulatory approvals processes, to compliance management through construction and operations.

Our team works collaboratively within projects to gain social acceptance and manage our clients’ commitments to the workplace and sustainable development.

At Atkins Ralis, we offer an agile and flexible work environment with a strong emphasis on integrity, health and safety, collaboration, and excellence, and provide competitive compensation and benefits.

You will be a key member of the team, reinforcing our reputation for technical excellence and working collaboratively to deliver innovative work across our infrastructure, power, and renewables client portfolios.

Your role within the team
  • Coordinate, manage and deliver all aspects related to environmental permitting activities, particularly for the energy sector (ideally nuclear), working as part of a wider delivery team.
  • Coordinate and guide efforts to obtain and comply with environmental approvals/permits for projects from regulatory agencies (municipal, provincial and federal).
  • Act as a project manager/coordinator responsible for the development and management of scope, budget, schedule, and effective quality oversight.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of consultation and engagement programs, including with First Nations and Indigenous communities.
  • Independently coordinate and manage external subcontractors.
  • Effectively delegate tasks and activities to more junior staff, providing technical and supervisory guidance on assigned tasks.
  • Assist with and, as necessary, take a lead role in the development of proposals, qualification documents and other business development related activities.
  • Interact with clients and regulatory agencies and ministries to ensure that projects are successfully delivered within timelines.
  • Support the growth of environmental planning / environmental assessment market share in strategic markets.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, or a related degree.
  • 8-10 years of related experience in managing/coordinating environmental assessments and securing construction permits/approvals, including for energy projects, preferably in the nuclear sector.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrable experience working with nuclear regulators is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience with environmental project management fundamentals, including cost control, scope management and scheduling.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced engineering or environmental consulting environment.
  • Full or provisional membership in a professional body is an asset (e.g., RPP, PMP, EP).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s licence.
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Commitment

Atkins Ralis is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We strongly believe that world‑class talent makes no distinctions based on gender, ethnic or national origin, sexual identity and orientation, age, religion or disability, but enriches itself through these differences.

Are you up for this challenge? Apply today and join our team to help engineer a better future for our planet and its people.
