Advisor, Tailings Operations & Governance

Our Special Projects Legacy Assets are currently seeking a Advisor, Tailings Operations & Governance to oversee the implementation of our tailings guidance, standards and policies and our Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) management standards. This includes policies, systems, performance and auditing functions across our Legacy Assets portfolio.

The role in a nutshell

In this role, you will support site personnel, Responsible Tailings Facility Engineers/Persons (RTFE/P) and Dam Owners and provide guidance and advice to the Legacy Assets management team. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring our Legacy Assets meet Glencore’s Goals and Objectives related to preventing impacts on health, safety, the environment, communities, cultural heritage, and infrastructure.

The position requires a solid understanding of specific international, national, provincial/state or local regulations, legislation, or governmental directives, including meeting the requirements of Glencore’s Tailings Storage Facility Framework (TSFF).

Responsibilities
  • Support the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE/P) in implementing Glencore’s Tailings Storage Facility Policy and Dam Management Standard at site level, ensuring governance requirements are translated into practical site actions, schedules and deliverables.
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of routine TSF governance reporting, including monthly TSF updates and periodic Accountable Executive (AE) and management briefings.
  • Support TSF risk assessments (e.g. FMEA, bowtie, ALARP workshops) as part of multidisciplinary teams led by the RTFE; coordinate risk review sessions, capture outcomes and actions, and maintain risk and control registers in approved systems.
  • Assist with Critical Control Verification (CCV) activities through coordination, documentation and tracking.
  • Support site and RTFE preparation for TSF Group assurance audits, self-assessments, DSRs and independent reviews by compiling required documentation and coordinating site logistics and schedules; attend audits, DSR or ITRB site visits in a support role when required.
  • Track audit findings, recommendations and actions; maintain action registers, monitor progress against due dates, report status to RTFE and management, and support sites, RTFE and Dam Owner in addressing and closing actions.
  • Maintain TSF related data and records in approved systems (e.g. SharePoint, Risk Manager); support completion and updates of GISTM workbooks and disclosures, TSF registers and inventories; ensure documentation is current, organised and accessible for operations, projects, audits and reviews.
  • Act as a coordination point and point of contact for internal data and document requests, routine TSF related coordination and enquiries.
  • Review technical documents (e.g. OMS, EPRPs, technical reports) to support completeness, consistency and implementation readiness.
  • Coordinate communication and information flow between RTFE/P, Senior Tailings Engineer, Engineer of Record, site teams and contractors; participate in site TSF discussions and meetings to support alignment and follow-up of actions.
  • Support development and coordination of site-based TSF awareness and training activities (outside corporate training platforms); communicate tailings related expectations, lessons learned and good practice to site teams.
  • Support a strong health, safety and environmental culture in all tailings-related activities and perform all duties in alignment with Glencore HSEC Standards, the TSF & Dam Management Standard, GISTM requirements and applicable regulatory obligations.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ experience in tailings, geological, civil, hydrotechnical, mining Engineering, or related sectors.
  • You have effective written and verbal communication, consulting skills, collaboration and leadership skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision across all division functions and levels, and a willingness to learn new skills.
