Job Description Overview

We are looking for a Structural Engineer (Bridges) to join our Bridge department in the Central Region. The role will focus on project management, structural design and lead support for bridge and transportation projects across Ontario.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out engineering activities in the field of bridges and engineering structures, including design, inspection, evaluation (load rating), and execution of projects.
  • Conduct preliminary and detailed structural design and tender preparation for construction or rehabilitation of bridges and other structures.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and tools to solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to junior engineers and technicians, including studies, analysis, and load ratings.
  • Advise management and team lead, and collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Prepare proposals and participate in business development activities, such as publications and conferences.
  • Develop contract packages for the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) and key clients (MTO, Metrolinx, Municipalities, TTC), incorporating current policies, procedures, standards, specifications, and manuals.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with a structural major.
  • Registered as a Qualified Engineer (P. Eng) with PEO in valuable standing.
  • 7+ years of engineering practice experience in analysis and design of bridge and transportation structures, including railway (LRT and heavy rail) as an asset.
  • Experience with Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) and American Railway Engineering and Maintenance‑Of‑Way Association (AREMA) Code.
  • Proficiency in SAP
    2000, CSI Bridge, MIDAS, STAAD PRO, ETABS, Bentley Project Wise and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong oral and written English communication skills, and excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Experience reviewing condition survey reports and recommending rehabilitation strategies (beneficial).
