ContextThe role is responsible for a specific corridor within the GOE program (Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, USRC, Northern Corridors and Extensions) or between Railway Systems and Civil infrastructure. The role responsibility for system integration within the corridor and provides technical support to the Corridor Technical leads to support integration. This includes integration of Railway Systems and Civil infrastructure where required to achieve an integrated System (as per EN 50126).
The resource reports directly to the Technical GOE Integration Lead and other parties when required.
The role is responsible to support the development of an integrated solution and system in accordance with ISO 15288 and EN 50126, including the supporting and developing (if required) interface matrices, interface registers, interface control documents, interface requirements, hazard analysis and other work required to ensure an integrated solution. The role will be responsible for identification, management, and validation of all interfaces.
The role will also support any inter‑corridor discussions. Integration specialist will develop any corridor specific plans, registers and documents.
The role will work extensively with corridor technical teams, specialized delivery teams, GOE Program Integration Team, Technical System Integration Authority, designers and other stakeholders to ensure an integrated design approach.
Missions/Main Duties- Provides technical expertise and guidance to designers using engineering standards, principles and practices to ensure integration within the corridor development and ensures integration approach aligns with corporate standards and leadership.
- Understanding railway systems and civil infrastructure design practices and integration development both within Canada as well as international. Understands the regulatory environment in which Metrolinx systems operates and can lead discussions and compliance assessments where required.
- Supports and as necessary leads the development of interface matrices
- Supports and as necessary leads the development of interface risks and corresponding mitigation(s)
- Supports and as necessary leads the development and tracks interface registers and interface control documents
- Works with requirements team to ensure proper capture and resolution/validation of all interface requirements.
- Supports the review and acceptance of assurance deliverables by providing integration level reviews.
- Coordinates and controls integration requirement compliance assurance and supports risk‑based assurance and auditing initiatives.
- Supports the development and implementation of standards at the corporate level.
- Supports the review of variations to contract requirements and deviations to standards and technical requirements and compliance verification with agency processes for deviations to the requisite standards, safety case development and risk management controls.
- Supports technical reviews of design submittals, including for outsourced contracts, for compliance with standards, technical requirements, and codes, utilizing Safety in Design (SiD), Interdisciplinary Design Review (IDR) and System Engineering (SE) processes and principles.
- Supports and assists in processes to identify and rectify points of failure and improvement initiatives necessary to enhance safety, reliability and operability of the asset base and systems improvements, utilizing analysis and outputs from Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) processes and, support the development of recommendations for corrective actions.
- Supporting reviews and reporting on testing and commissioning plans, submittals, and activities for compliance with technical requirements, standards, and regulatory requirements, including for outsourced contracts.
- Supports, the development of scope, procurement of professional services, physical works, and maintenance contracts, including supporting in market activities and responses to RFI's and contract submittal review.
- Supports the review and definition of recommendations for improvements in internal practices and processes and those of relevant delivery teams, contractors, and consultants and, as directed, leads improvement actions within the area of assigned accountability and engineering discipline.
