Position

Senior Electrical Design Engineer to define and continue the development of the electrical hardware and interfaces between Kepler’s latest generation satellite platforms and various bus/payload equipment. Position status: contingent upon program award.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and own hardware solutions to support Kepler’s space technology using leading technology and practices.
  • Support design reviews for active designs to minimize gaps and drive learning for junior engineers.
  • Assist in pathfinding development for future satellite generations with interfaces such as UFS, 10G+ Ethernet, PCIe 5.0, high-speed interfaces, new memory technology, and processors.
  • Conduct and document engineering analyses including derating, reliability, radiation, EMI/EMC, FMECA, and power budgets.
  • Contribute to best practices and development of internal standards.
  • Maintain thorough technical documentation capturing design decisions, specifications, block diagrams, interface requirements, and system architecture reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (RF, mechanical, software, FPGA) to develop full product solutions.
  • Develop full product solutions by working with cross-functional teams including RF, mechanical, software, and FPGA.
  • Drive knowledge-sharing activities to build the technical knowledge of junior engineers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of hardware design experience (schematic and layout) with a strong background in:
  • Leading development of multi-board systems and electrical interface planning/definition.
  • Performance of schematic design and layout of processors, FPGAs, SoCs, DAC/ADCs, or other high-speed digital components.
  • Familiarity with memory types and interfaces including QSPI, UFS, DDR3/4, eMMC.
  • Design and routing for high-speed interfaces including JESD
    204B, 10G Ethernet, etc.
  • Clock generation, PLLs, jitter cleaning, clock distribution, and timing concepts.
  • Experience in a rapid learning/agile environment supporting early learnings when requirements are not locked down.
  • Willingness and ability to leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity, design quality, and innovation.
  • Experience leading a project from architecture to design validation.
  • Comfortable in a lab environment using tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, and VNAs.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to produce thorough design documentation.
  • Experience designing for space/aerospace or other high-reliability environments; designing hardware/systems to operate in radiation (LEO); low-level electrical design and high-speed layout; experience with Altium.
