Context Of The Role

We are looking for a proactive and autonomous SCADA engineering profile able to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment. This role requires versatility across technical, organizational, and strategic activities within large-scale transportation system projects.

This is a contract consultant position for an initial duration of one year, with a possible extension depending on project progress. The role is based in the Mississauga area, Canada.

• Analyze customer-provided system specifications and translate them into detailed software requirements
• Identify gaps between customer needs and existing standard software solutions
• Produce technical documentation including high-level design, interface specifications, detailed requirements, and traceability documents
• Act as the primary technical interface with the customer throughout the project lifecycle
• Collaborate with internal teams (project management, construction, engineering, applications) and external stakeholders (clients, contractors, authorities, assessors)
• Plan and lead commissioning activities including resource allocation, logistics, and scheduling
• Lead onsite commissioning and acceptance testing activities
• Coordinate work sequences, schedules, resources, and punch list items
• Define and execute testing protocols aligned with contractual requirements through to commercial operation
• Oversee testing of all systems (control systems, communication networks, power supplies, auxiliary systems such as fire detection, ventilation, and HMI)
• Provide onsite and remote technical support during commissioning and operations
• Develop training materials and ensure knowledge transfer to operations and maintenance teams
• Produce commissioning and testing reports for internal and external stakeholders
• Contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge capture initiatives
• Manage administrative responsibilities (reporting, issue tracking, safety analysis, quality compliance)

• Experience as a SCADA and/or maintenance management systems specialist, preferably in the railway or mass transit industry
• Strong knowledge of SCADA and/or maintenance management systems
• Knowledge of communication protocols (Ethernet, TCP/IP, Modbus)
• Understanding of Safety Integrity Level standards (hardware and software)
• Knowledge of wiring, cabinets, cable routing, and interfaces with civil works
• Understanding of maintenance principles including databases, data collection and transfer, asset configuration, work orders, and spare parts management

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation systems (railway, metro, tramway, freight)
• Engineering degree (electrical, automation, or equivalent) or relevant experience
• At least 5 years of experience in design, commissioning, or performance testing
• Knowledge of SCADA protocols (such as DNP3 and Modbus)
• Working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
• Experience with MMIS systems (e.g., Maximo)
• Experience with PLCs, SCADA gateways, managed Ethernet switches, media converters, and digital I/O devices
• Knowledge of continuous improvement or root cause analysis methodologies
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with autonomy and attention to detail
• Willingness to travel occasionally, including short notice assignments
• Strong customer-oriented problem-solving skills

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical, computer, mechanical, civil)
• Professional engineering certification is an asset
