Network Design Intern
LocationToronto, Ontario, Canada
ScheduleFull time (40 hours per week). Internship/Co‑op (Full-time/Hybrid). Internship duration:
September 2026 – December 2026.
$23–$30 CAD per hour
Responsibilities- Convert internal and external customer requirements into conceptual designs and prepare associated documentation through operational analyses, simulations and technical trade‑off studies.
- Create and document detailed network designs that implement the requirements.
- Deploy solutions in the lab and support testing activities.
- Participate in technical reviews of component designs, installations, vendor selection and qualification.
- Provide support for issues in the field.
- Prepare and support bids and proposals, including customer requirements compliance assessment, gap analysis, architecture design, simulation, trade‑off of key features and estimation.
- Present technical designs and reports to customers and engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise and non‑ambiguous terms.
- Interface and build working relationships with software, hardware and testing groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in‑house and field test issues.
- Accurately report work progress and estimates to complete assigned work.
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Knowledge of network principles and technologies:
Ethernet/IP‑based networking (switching/routing protocols), redundancy and high‑availability technologies, network/IT services, MPLS and VPN technologies, RF networking (802.11, LTE). - Experience in programming/scripting languages such as Python, C, C++, JavaScript, Perl, and Shell script.
- Fluency in English – written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work full time (40 hours per week) during the internship term, with at least 16 hours per week in the Toronto office.
- Knowledge of rail signalling, CBTC, and specification‑driven networks applicable to computer systems with both hardware and software components.
