Engineer, Bridges, Structures and Expressways with the Engineering & Construction Services Division.

Non-Union. Reports to the Manager, Bridges, Structures and Expressways.
Review and provide comments on construction proposals in support of the Metrolinx Subway Program, Metrolinx GO Expansion Program, Metrolinx Light Rail Transit Program, Smart Track Stations, third‑party and agencies development, and construction activities near City bridges and the Right‑of‑Way. Provide technical expertise to interpret and apply City standards, specifications, and policies from application through construction completion. Manage service delivery to meet organizational performance and quality standards, ensuring that designs modifying, replacing, or impacting City bridge infrastructure conform to division, cluster, and corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
Support permit applications, infrastructure construction cost estimates, and review of agreements and related processes.
Reporting to the Manager, Bridges, Structures and Expressways, the role emphasizes effective stakeholder management and technical competency to support project delivery.
Key competencies- Managing stakeholder expectations and communications – Communicate effectively with the public, contractors, developers, consultants, Councillors, other divisions and government agencies to discuss projects, programs, and developments.
- Technical Knowledge, Analysis & Consultation – Apply Railway, Roadway and Bridge standards, legislation, rules, procedures and practices for project submissions; review life cycle costs, procurement comments, and mitigation measures; conduct research aligned with corporate policies and government initiatives; understand Design-Build procurement models; communicate needs to internal stakeholders.
You plan and deliver technical expertise for capital project reviews and analyses. You collaborate effectively in a multistakeholder, politically sensitive environment, resolve conflicts, negotiate, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting. You provide expert technical recommendations that support public interest and project deliverables, and you can interpret engineering plans, drawings, and specifications for bridges, tunnels, culverts, and retaining walls. Knowledge of federal/provincial regulations and safety requirements (including the Occupational Health & Safety Act), and familiarity with CSA and MTO guidelines are essential.
Experience with the regulatory standards of the City of Toronto, Metrolinx, and related design standards is an asset. You value innovation, collaboration, transparency, accountability and integrity in public service.
- Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Experience in condition assessment, design, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of bridges, structures, and expressways for capital projects.
- Experience providing technical expertise and consultation to stakeholders in reviewing engineering drawings for bridge infrastructure.
- Experience reviewing/approving legal agreements for construction and cost sharing of new and existing infrastructure.
- Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence.
