ContextWe are looking to strengthen our Environmental team in Ontario and are looking for a Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials Specialist to join the growing team.
Missions / Main Duties- Review of previously completed investigations and reporting.
- Identify data gaps and commitments.
- Development of the scope and schedule related to their specialty.
- Lead the subject matter team tasked to complete investigations work and reporting.
- Incorporation of requirements into design.
- Confirmation that requirements and commitments are executed.
- Oversee Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials assessments related to demolition of buildings, roads, utilities, and miscellaneous materials.
- Evaluates the potential risks for workers and develops mitigation and control measures in accordance with applicable legislation.
- minimum of 4 years of direct work-related experience;
- a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of study related to occupational hygiene, environmental health and safety, environmental science, civil or environmental engineering;
- experience in the identification and evaluation of Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Regulation 278/05, Ontario Regulation 490/09, Ontario Regulation 860 made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario);
Ontario Regulation 347 made under the Environmental Protection Act (Ontario); and Ontario Regulation 362 made under the Environmental Protection Act (Ontario); - experience in the development of mitigation measures and removal plans for Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials;
- knowledge of federal, Ontario and municipal policies, standards and guidelines, procedures and legislation with respect to Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials;
- ability to liaise with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities; and
- experience with similar projects in the Province of Ontario
