SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm whose primary focus is to offer transportation solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies of building a new railway line, increasing the capacity of the existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway.

Context

The role is responsible for an assigned area of asset class responsibility and provides technical support to the Rapid Transit Engineering & Asset Management (EAM) asset class discipline engineering lead for a particular transit system (e.g., GO, LRT or Subways). It verifies compliance with requisite engineering and other technical requirements, provides oversight of technical work performed under various contract arrangements, and undertakes field inspections and condition assessments, including the development of strategies for preventative and/or remediation work necessary to correct asset defects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise, assess and verify compliance with technical requirements, and define necessary remediation work, including field inspections and condition assessments.
  • Represent the asset class engineering discipline for delivery of technical work by retained and outsourced contracts, including review and acceptance of safety cases.
  • Coordinate and control the development of technical standards, RAMS requirements, acceptance criteria, and risk‑based assurance initiatives across the asset lifecycle and contractual arrangements.
  • Support the review of deviations, oversee technical reviews of design submittals, and assist in identifying and rectifying points of failure through FMECA and RCFA processes.
  • Manage testing and commissioning plans, contracts, variations, and supplier performance to ensure compliance with requirements and budgets.
  • Lead improvement actions and support the definition of recommendations for internal practices and process enhancements.
Profile / Qualifications

Education: Completion of a University Degree in Engineering and rail sector or related industry experience, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.

Experience: Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the asset class, or related engineering disciplines, or a combination of design, delivery, testing and commissioning, operations, and maintenance of railway systems in a comparable role.

Certifications: P.Eng, designation or C.E.T. certification will be an asset.

    • Knowledgeable in the development and reporting of Key Performance Indicators and performance tracking metrics.
  • Engineering
    • Proficient in asset class engineering knowledge and functional duties to support representation of the discipline.
    • Proficient in aspects of the engineering discipline for engineering, design, planning, validation, transition to operations and hand back of asset class infrastructure.
    • Supports progressive validation and compliance assurance for CAPEX and OPEX budget development and business process authorizations.
    • Proficient in standards development, management, and control.
    • Knowledgeable in applicable industry, legal and regulatory standards and requirements.
    • Knowledgeable in technical scope change management processes.
    • Knowledgeable in mitigation strategies for unplanned asset class operational disruptions.
    • Proficient in the use of specialized software platforms required for the function.
  • Systems Engineering
    • Knowledgeable in implementation of processes for the analysis and interpretation of operating and maintenance‑based data including FRACAS, FMECA, and RAM Analysis.
