Automation Engineer – Pharmaceutical Industry

As an Automation Engineer, you will support the design, implementation, integration, validation, and optimization of industrial automation systems used in GMP manufacturing environments. We are open to candidates of all experience levels, from junior engineers looking to grow their careers to experienced automation specialists and technical leads.

• Design, configure, program, and troubleshoot industrial automation systems.
• Support the implementation and optimization of DeltaV, PLC, SCADA, HMI, MES, or other manufacturing automation platforms.
• Develop or review automation documentation including Functional Specifications (FRS), User Requirements Specifications (URS), Control Narratives, Sequence of Operations, and I/O Lists.
• Participate in system integration activities between automation platforms, MES, historians, packaging equipment, and manufacturing systems.
• Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, qualification, and startup activities.
• Troubleshoot automation, instrumentation, and control system issues during project execution and production support.
• Collaborate with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Validation (CQV), Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and IT/OT teams.
• Ensure automation solutions comply with GMP, GAMP 5, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Participate in change control, deviation investigations, CAPAs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work with equipment vendors and system integrators to ensure successful project execution.

Experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset:

• Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley
• GE iFIX
• Ignition
• OSIsoft PI Historian (AVEVA PI)
• SCADA, HMI, PLC and DCS systems

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, food, or other regulated manufacturing environments is an asset.
• Knowledge of industrial automation systems, controls, instrumentation, or manufacturing execution systems.
• Familiarity with GMP, GAMP 5, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, ISA-88 and/or ISA-95 is an asset.
• Experience supporting commissioning, qualification (CQV), FAT/SAT, or validation activities is considered a strong advantage.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary project teams.
• Ability to work on client sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
