About the Position

AUG Signals is seeking a hands-on Mechatronics Engineer with a strong product focus to design and optimize our environmental monitoring products and support their prototyping, manufacturing, and continuous improvements. In this role, you will lead the physical architecture, structural integrity, and environmental ruggedization of our devices, while managing CNC machining and 3D printing operations, including machine setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and process optimization.

You will work closely with the electronics and production team to support prototype development, mechanical improvements, manufacturing processes, and continuous product enhancements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead 3D CAD modeling and structural layout for mechanical components, assemblies, and enclosures using CAD software (Solid Works, Fusion).
  • Design mounting, shielding, and airflow pathways for sensors to ensure accurate sampling.
  • Develop prototypes using 3D printers, CNC machines, and fabrication equipment, and run environmental stress testing.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot CNC machines and 3D printers.
  • Prepare production-ready documentation including engineering drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing/assembly instructions.
  • Assemble, test, and validate prototypes and production units.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturers to source mechanical components.
  • Support production by troubleshooting manufacturing issues and implementing design improvements.
  • Develop manufacturing processes and work instructions.
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, and production teams.
  • Support installation and deployment of products when required.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechatronics, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience developing physical product enclosures or rugged electromechanical hardware.
  • High proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (Solid Works, Fusion).
  • Experience with CNC machining and 3D printing.
  • Solid understanding of sealing mechanisms, gaskets, and materials needed to meet strict IP rating standards
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, plastics, assembly).
  • Prototype development and testing experience.
  • Ability to read schematics, understand spatial constraints of PCBs, and effectively communicate mechanical constraints to the electronics team.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent documentation and attention to detail.
Preferred Skills (Assets)
  • Basic electronics knowledge (PCB assembly, wiring, sensors).
  • Experience integrating mechanical and electronic systems.
  • ERP software experience (Odoo, SAP, ERPNext, etc.) ISO quality systems familiarity.
  • Basic Python or C/C++ knowledge.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license.
